Christmas Still Fills My Heart with Wonder

Give me the glittering red and green of Christmas and I feel giddy as a ten year old girl. I don’t know what it is, or why it’s lasted all these years, but I love Christmas. Believe it or not, it’s not all about the presents, although don’t get me wrong, this girl loves getting prezzies. I can’t get enough of Eartha Kitt crooning Santa Baby, or most of the other Christmas songs.  Okay, I must admit there are one or two that are cringe-worthy to me.

It’s about the beautiful colors and decorations. The joy you see on kid’s faces when they look in awe at all the elves, reindeer, lights, and trees. It’s about the teasing, and sneaking presents under the tree so that when I, my daughter-in-law, or my son glance down we know that Santa has stopped by already, the sneaky guy.

It’s the surprising card in the mail, with words of love and encouragement inside. And whether you celebrate because of your religion, or because you’ve adopted the holiday as just a joyous occasion, it’s delightful and fun.

I know that some have let it become a commercial nightmare, but that doesn’t diminish the joy others gain in the way they celebrate, whether it’s with a Charlie Brown tree on a tabletop and no present exchanges, or the family who erects that tree with branches reaching for the cathedral ceiling and myriad-shaped boxes crouching underneath.

However you celebrate, I wish you and yours a marvelous Christmas filled with love, joy, laughter and good food. In honor of my Scottish and Irish ancestors, Nollaig chridheil agus Bliadhna mhath ùr!

  1. Christmas music has been playing around here since the day after Thanksgiving. The same day my tree went up (due to the dog it is fake), and I love all the lights on the houses no matter how few, because what it means to me is that someone inside that house has the Christmas Spirit. I like the stillness of the holiday, the quiet moments just as much as the time spent with friends and family.

    1. We also put our tree up right after Thanksgiving. It’s so nice that you enjoy these things. I also enjoy the quiet moments with nothing happening but the lights on the tree twinkling at me. Merry Christmas!

Looking forward to your reply....
